A day at the sea with SAMSA: tides

Dsc06452The Trust Sustainability Films (TSF) is currently producing four educational films with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). Each film is seen through the eyes of a young Boy and a young girl who are our star actors, Sophakama Zabo and Siyamthanda Dyantyie. The first three educational films are part of A Day At The Sea With SAMSA series: Tides; Pollution; and Careers while the last film is a purely promotional film for SAMSA as an organisation.
Last Sunday, 27 October 2013, TSF filmed on location in Kenton on Sea. The children explored the impact of the tides on the rocky inter-tidal zone and they had to take care in terms of falling off the rocks, they also examined the estuary and the impact of tides on the beach. While they were having fun in the three ecosystems other members of the film team, Martin and Kyle were using time lapse photography to show the dramatic effects of a virtually empty Kowie Estuary becoming totally full.
This film starts with a teacher describing tides it then goes to the time-lapse of tides in the estuary, rocky shore and the harbour, followed by animations of how the sun and the moon cause the tidal cycles and then finally the children go to the sea.
