SST wishes Dr Sylvia Earle, a founding trustee and patron of SST, and architect of Global Hope Spot movement, a wonderful 80th birthday.
Dr Earle launched South Africa’s first six International Hope Spots in December 2014. In his speech, at the launch of the Knysna Hope Spot the Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom spoke of his vision of making South Africa the Global Hope Spot Destination of Choice and recommended that that 30th of August, Dr Earle's birthday, should become the World Hope Spot day.

SST is pleased that South African Hope Spots are celebrating World Hope Spot day and encourage all other Hope Spots around the world to do so also.
