NATIONAL MARINE WEEK 2014 THEME:
#OCEANS 70/20 : Decoding Mysteries, Optimising Opportunities!
An ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE GROUP - Sustainable Seas Trust (SST); SANPARKS Woody Cape; Ndlambe Environmental Office; DAFF Port Alfred & Port Elizabeth; DEDEAT; Department of Water & Sanitation; Eastern Cape Park’s Board at Thomas Baines; Department of Education – Grahamstown office; and WESSA - are hosting Marine Week exhibitions in the Boknes Community Hall from the 13th to the 17th of October 2014.
Entries from a school competition based on the theme and run by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) will be on display during the week alongside interactive marine awareness displays centred themes such as pollution and poaching and other attractions like the SANPARKS touch and feel tank with marine life samples.
On the Monday the event is open to public and other conservation organisations such as CoastCare and subsistence fishermen and from Tuesday onwards school children are also welcome. Children from nearby areas who will be brought to the event by participating organisations can also look forward to a picnic lunch on beach.
