After an exciting four weeks on the road, the Sustainable Seas Trust’s SEA Pledge team is back in the Eastern Cape.
Due to SAMSA’s sponsorship and support, the tour has been a great success. Sustainable Seas Trust has enjoyed promoting SAMSA and its mission as well as interacting with its staff and representatives.

In just five weeks, the SEA Pledge team has traveled over 6000 km between Saldanha and Sodwana, gave 23 lectures in 16 coastal towns, held numerous discussions and developed new partnerships. Mayors of eleven municipalities committed to the SEA Pledge crusade (see SEA Pledge map) followed by local organiztions joinig the Business Challenge, becoming a SEA Pledge Ports or in the case of schools, joining the schools challenge.
The SEA Pledge team and its partners are gearing up for SEA Pledge Action Day on December 3rd and COP 17, where Dr. Ribbink will be presenting a talk on SEA Pledge to the Global Forum for Oceans, Coasts and Islands, a UN affiliated body. As we prepare for these upcoming events, we would like to thank SAMSA for supporting our initiative!
