Dr Ribbink and Mr Miyaji discussing coelacanth research in Tokyo when they first met. At that time Mr Miyaji was an Honorary Consul for the South African Embassy in Tokyo. This association grew into a friendship which culminated in Mr Miyaji becoming an overseas trustee of SST in 2008 and then the SST Patron in Japan in 2012.
