Algoa Bay Hope Spot LogoAlgoa Bay, situated on the East Cape coast of South Africa, is known for its natural beauty and biodiversity. The bay incorporates two island groups and is home to the largest populations of African Penguins. It is a protected refuge to calving whales, large pods of bottle nose dolphin, humpback dolphins and visiting orcas are not an uncommon sight. The annual migration of millions of sardine is announced and celebrated by blue eyed Cape Gannets, game fish, dolphins and sharks alike. The abundance is overwhelming and life prolific. Recognized as one of the world temperate biodiversity hotspots and candidate for Mission Blue Hope Spot status is witness to the area's uniqueness and biodiversity.

Algoa Bay is also home to a wide variety of sharks, some residential such as ragged tooth, pyjama and leopard shark, other are frequent and regular visitors to our beautiful bay.  The resident shark species such as pajama and leopard catshark (endemic to South Africa) and an even larger number of frequent visitors. The area is nursing ground to both ragged tooth, great white and smooth hammerhead sharks. Sharks are both prey and predator and they fulfil an essential and meaningful role in the functioning or our oceans as a whole and are indicative of ocean life.
