2013 SAMSA SEA Pledge Tour

The SAMSA SEA Pledge Saldanha to Sodwana Tour of April/May 2013 was a great success in its own right and also laid a solid foundation for the subsequent tours and activities. The touring team and on many occasions its SAMSA partners were active in Saldanha Bay, Langebaan, Simonstown, Cape Town, Hermanus, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Natures Valley, Port St Francis, Port Elizabeth, Kenton-on-Sea, East London, Port Shepstone, Scottsburgh, Amanzimtoti, Durban, Ballito Bay, Richards Bay and Sodwana Bay (20 venues). The tour was launched by Dr Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer in Residence and TED award winner, who is the SST Patron. An additional nine South African marine scientists, photographers, ocean adventurers, divers and all conservationists gave the other lectures.

A SEA Pledge is a written, spoken or video commitment you can make to increase your handprint (the positive actions you make for the environment) and decrease your footprint (the negative impacts you have on the environment). Depending who you are or what you do, your pledge will differ.

SEA Pledges are commitments to measurably improve the manner in which people treat the environment, thereby reducing their footprint. They are also commitments to help others, increasing their handprints. People may copy or modify one or more of the existing pledges, but the most helpful pledges are the new, unique pledges to reduce footprints and increase handprints. New ideas can inspire others.
